The Undercut

Ahhh, the undercut. Hipster hair, Boardwalk Empire hair, aka the Jimmy Darmody hairstyle – whatever you want to call it, it’s a hot look. I don’t know what it is about this hair that makes me love it. Maybe because it makes a man look like a 1920’s gangster slash gentleman scholar? Slick and long at the top, shaved around the sides and back – a cross between a military cut, and something a bit more vintage. I don’t think I’m the only one hoping this cut stays around for a while longer.

What you think of this hairstyle. Would your man dare to try this look?

I am particularly in love with Justin Timberlake’s slick and straightened undercut. For a man with naturally curly hair, he really works this look.

Summer Scenes

Since launching my blog in May, I have averaged about 1 post a month. Come on Melanie, time to amp up your game!…

I’ve been going through a lot of old photos lately to find a few framers. I am one of those people that always buys picture frames with the best of creative intentions, but they inevitably wind up empty and shoved in the back of a closet. A few weeks ago, I dug out some frames and ACTUALLY HUNG THEM UP, GUYS! This is big deal for me. Now they’re hanging nakedly, patiently, just waiting to be filled.

While I won’t be putting the following pictures up on my walls, they are my favourite Instagram pics because they absolutely scream summer to me. Having already come across a few fashion stories about what is going to be hot for fall, I plan to embrace my favourite season for as long as possible!

What images are quintessentially ‘summer’ to you?

melaniexeinalem | Pinterest Love

If you have been to my Pinterest profile (melaniexeinalem) and wondered how I have so many followers, I wanted to answer that here on my blog. I’m an eye candy lover. Before Pinterest, I bookmarked and saved everything you can imagine. Pictures of cupcakes, puppies, makeup I wanted to try, outfit ideas, dream homes, buttercream recipes, DIY projects – you name it. I’m talking hundreds of bookmarks. You can imagine how thrilled I was to discover Pinterest – a way to visually display and organize everything I had bookmarked! (nerd alert, I know). I was an immediate addict.

I have been a dedicated (ie. obsessed) user of Pinterest since February 2011. The reason I remember that date so clearly is because that was also the month I decided to start working as a freelance marketer. For some reason, maybe because I was uploading/pinning everything I had ever bookmarked, my following on Pinterest grew rapidly (and an unreal amount of email notifications started filling my inbox). By August 5th, 2011, I had hit 14,000 followers.

On January 29th, 2012, an article about Pinterest appeared in my Facebook newsfeed titled, “21 Must-Follow Pinterest Users.” Of course, being a Pinterest fiend at this point, I HAD to know who was featured, so I clicked and started reading. When I got to number 20, my jaw dropped – I was listed as number 20! I couldn’t believe it.

As you can imagine, getting featured on Mashable calls for a lot of traffic. My little moment in the spotlight added to an already staggering number of followers. By May 2012 I was up to 239,941 followers.

Today, I have over 500K Pinterest followers, I have had a variety of unique freelance job opportunities come my way. I’m so, so thankful to all of you for following me on Pinterest. Without you those projects wouldn’t have been possible!

I hope you enjoyed a little walk down my Pinterest memory lane. Happy pinning, fellow Pinterest addicts!

I have wanted to start a blog for years (yes, YEARS), but I was perpetually stuck on a name. I thought that the title of my blog was the most important part. The one time I thought I had come up with the perfect name, when I went to register it, someone had already claimed it. I was devastated and once again put off my little dream of starting a blog.

{sometimes it takes a while for an idea to blossom…}

Recently, while looking through my photo stream on Instagram, I realised that all I really wanted from my blog was a place to share my day to day life and things I love. I didn’t want to wait any longer to start working on something I had wanted for much too long. I finally decided to use the username melaniexeinalem that I use on most of my social network accounts. I don’t know why I didn’t just do that sooner!

The lesson is, don’t put off your dream until the conditions are perfect – you have to start somewhere, and {today} is as great a day as any to start.

Some people have asked me if Einalem was my last name. In case you didn’t realise it before:

melaniexeinalem is my name, { Melanie }  the letter { X } and then ‘Melanie’ spelled backwards { einaleM }  (pronounced i-Na-Lem )

I hope you enjoy what you read and see here. Please feel free to comment and let me know where you are reading from. Wherever you are in the world, I would love to hear from you.
